A Sculptural Piece made of hand-forged mild steel
The sculptural roots create a dramatic modernist sculpture of mangroves, each piece is individually handcrafted by expert metalsmiths and is our ode to the intrinsic connection between Indian crafts and nature.
Mangroves are tropical trees that grow in the saline coastal waters of several Goan rivers including the Mandovi. Their prominent root systems filter salt, fosters diverse animal and plant life along the coast and protects Tidal flats from erosion. These fragile ecosystems are disappearing and there is an urgent need to increase awareness around their re-generation.
This Mangrove Root sculpture hopes to educate and increase conversations around protecting these trees that are such an important part of our Goan coast.
