Prafulla Dhananukar (1934 – 2014) was born in Goa. She served the cause of art and painting for all her life, as committee member of the Lalit Kala Akademi in New Delhi from 1974 to 1979, and the President of Bombay Art Society from 1993 to 1998. She was a trustee of the Jehangir Art Gallery, committee member of Kala Academy in Goa for over three decades, and the President of the Art Society of India and the Chairperson of The Artists’ Center, Mumbai. The government of France awarded Dhananukar a scholarship for her study of graphic art at Ecole de Beaux Arts and Atelier.
